Alaska USA members lend helping hands during annual food drive

ANCHORAGE – Alaska USA Federal Credit Union members made more than 4,200 deposits during the month of November. Not to their checking or savings accounts, but to support their local food banks.
Alaska USA Federal Credit Union and the Alaska USA Foundation teamed up for the annual Cash for Cans fundraiser, collecting cash donations to benefit community food banks. Throughout the month, members generously gave to the Cash for Cans drive at their neighborhood Alaska USA branches and donated more than $40,000 combined in Alaska, Washington, and California. Each Alaska donation benefits the following local food banks: Food Bank of Alaska in Anchorage, Food Pantry of Wasilla, Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, Homer Food Pantry, Kodiak Island Food Bank, Fairbanks Community Food Bank, Bethel Lions Club, Southeast Alaska Food Bank, and Salvation Army in Ketchikan.
“This year’s Cash for Cans drive exceeded our expectations as members stepped up to support food banks around the state,” said Janell Adams, Vice President Branch Administration, Alaska Division. “Many food banks have seen increases in demand during the last few years, which has made the need for funds even greater. As a community-minded organization, we’re proud that Alaska USA can help meet the challenge by making it easy for members to donate when they come into their neighborhood branch.”
