Pacific Northern Academy Selects Cohen to Lead School
(Anchorage) Pacific Northern Academy has selected Dr. Arnold Cohen as Head of School, concluding a national search for the school’s next top administrator. Cohen, formerly head of Dallas’ prestigious Lamplighter School, replaces PNA’s retiring head Marc Niedermier.
“Pacific Northern Academy introduces a new voice in progressive independent education to Anchorage with its hiring of Dr. Arnold Cohen as its next Head of School, “ sated Amy Rhyneer, chair of the school’s board of trustees.
Dr. Cohen was previously Head of School at the Lamplighter School in Dallas, Texas, and the Green Acres School in Rockville, Maryland.
“We were thrilled with the caliber of applicants for the position, but Dr. Cohen stood out in experience and philosophical fit”, said Search Chair Bethany Mehner-Weiser. “Our committee was unanimously impressed with his leadership and vision, his successes in development and his passion for independent education. Dr. Cohen’s educational philosophy and rigorous standards dovetail with PNA’s current philosophy and offerings. “
Dr. Cohen and his wife Celeste plan to relocate to Anchorage in the Spring. He will assume his new role on July 1, 2011. Cohen has his Master’s and Ph.D from Ohio State University. As Head, he has been known to teach student seminar courses in Latin, Greek and Roman Culture when time and responsibilities allow.
