Federal Judge Accelerates Timing on Miller Lawsuits
ANCHORAGE, AK - The Murkowski for Senate campaign applauded the written order from federal Judge
Ralph Beistline today. Beistline has ordered Joe Miller to file any outstanding federal issues within 48 hours of
a decision in the case by the Alaska Supreme Court. This signals an intent by the federal judge to resolve
Miller's federal lawsuit in a timely manner, perhaps before Christmas.
Beistline also said today that Alaska should have the Senate race certified before Jan. 3 and any outstanding
issues can be litigated after certification.
"We are encouraged that Judge Beistline has recognized the need to resolve this case in order for the state to
proceed with certifying the results of the election in which Senator Murkowski was clearly victorious," said
Murkowski campaign manager Kevin Sweeney. "Today's order illustrates the judge's commitment to decide
this quickly. If Mr. Miller is indeed pursuing this case on principle as he has stated, the judge has determined
that his litigation against the state can continue after Alaska's Senate seat has been filled. We wholeheartedly
agree," Sweeney added.
