ANCHORAGE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Doyon/ARAMARK Joint Venture, which provides hospitality services such as operating bus tours, park shuttles, food and beverage outlets, campgrounds and retail outlets within Denali National Park & Preserve, has been honored with the 2010 Environmental Achievement Award for Environmental Management Systems by the National Park Service (NPS).
"We are honored to be recognized by the NPS for our environmental efforts"
Doyon/ARAMARK was recognized for designing and implementing programs and processes that minimize the operation's overall environmental footprint at Denali.
Since 2008, the management system has helped Doyon/ARAMARK achieve a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 20 percent at Denali, by reducing energy and water consumption and instituting greater fuel efficiency and recycling programs.
"We are honored to be recognized by the NPS for our environmental efforts," said Dominic Canale, District Manager, Doyon/ARAMARK Joint Venture. "The Doyon/ARAMARK team has worked hard to create an environmental management system that helps reduce our impact on the environment, while continuing to deliver authentic guest experiences."
Doyon/ARAMARK's Denali platform is part of ARAMARK Parks and Destinations' broader commitment to promote environmentally sustainable solutions.
"As stewards of some of America's most scenic and beautiful destinations, we take pride in developing sustainable and environmentally-friendly programs that preserve our national and state parks and provide our guests with a better appreciation of our natural resources," said Bruce Fears, President of ARAMARK Parks and Destinations.
Each year, the NPS Environmental Achievement Awards acknowledge exceptional achievements and contributions in a broad range of environmental areas, including alternative fuel and fuel conservation in transportation; climate friendly innovations; environmental management systems (EMS); electronics stewardship; environmental stewardship; green purchasing; high performance/sustainable building; and waste/pollution prevention and recycling. Nominations are reviewed by a committee of representatives from the NPS regional offices and the Washington office.
"As a regional Native corporation with strong ties to its land and culture, Doyon realizes the importance of respecting the environment. We are honored that NPS has recognized the Doyon/ARAMARK environmental programs," said Doyon President and CEO Norman L. Phillips, Jr.
