USKH Acquires Land Design North

USKH & LDN: Branching Out Together

December 2009 - USKH Inc. (USKH) and Land Design North, Inc. (LDN) are pleased to announce that they are joining forces with USKH's acquisition of LDN on January 1, 2010.  LDN is an Anchorage-based landscape architecture, planning, and public involvement firm. USKH is a full-service design firm offering architectural, engineering, environmental, planning, and land surveying services.

With this acquisition, USKH will employ 185 people in Alaska, Washington and Idaho.

"USKH and LDN have successfully worked together on projects throughout Alaska for many years," says Tim Vig, P.E., USKH President.  "This takes our working relationship to a new level."

Terry Schoenthal and Dwayne Adams, both principals at LDN, will be important new members of the team at USKH. Adams will manage a new division of USKH that includes planning, landscape architecture, public involvement, and environmental services. Schoenthal will oversee landscape architecture projects.

Adams says, "A collaborative environment is the best method to create exciting and cost-effective design solutions.  USKH has the right energy and structure to foster that environment."

Vig adds, "The acquisition will strengthen, expand, and create synergy with the services that we offer our clients, and will allow us to branch out and pursue projects together that we would not have pursued on our own.   LDN staff is looking forward to expanding the reach of their services into our Pacific Northwest offices."

USKH and LDN previously completed the award winning U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Eielson Air Force Base Fitness Center; the South Anchorage Sports Complex planning study for the Municipality of Anchorage, several pedestrian safety and traffic circulation projects for the Anchorage School District; the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities' urban improvements to 5th and 6th Avenues in Anchorage; and the City of Valdez's North Harbor Drive Reconstruction projects.  Currently the two firms are teamed on the Municipality of Anchorage's 9th Avenue Rehabilitation project, which will be constructed during the summer of 2010.  Additional LDN projects include work at Kincaid Park, Anchorage Town Square, and the Parks Highway Scenic Corridor Study for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.

LDN staff will continue to work from their current office at 441 West Fifth Avenue, Suite 200 until USKH's new office building is completed in early 2012.
