Democratic Caucus selects Rep. Doogan to fill important seat
ANCHORAGE - Today Rep. Harry Crawford (D-Anchorage) announced he will vacate his seat on the House Finance Committee. The caucus selected Rep. Mike Doogan (D-Anchorage) to replace Crawford. Crawford is running for U.S. Congress and will be leaving the Alaska House of Representatives after the 2010 session.
"I'll be leaving the House at the end of this term, and I think it's best to let someone else step in and gain some seniority and experience," Crawford said. "Mike knows his way around the Finance Committee, and I think he's a great choice for the seat."
Doogan will join Rep. Woodie Salmon (D-Chalkyitsik), Rep. Les Gara (D-Anchorage) and Rep. Neal Foster (D-Nome) as the fourth Democrat on the Finance Committee. The Democrats picked up another Finance seat in November when Foster decided to caucus with them.
"I'm honored to step in and join my colleagues on Finance," Doogan said. "Harry is a tough act to follow, but I'm looking forward to the challenge, and to working with people on both sides of the aisle."
