Northwest Strategies Wins Fifteen National Telly Awards for Advertising Excellence
ANCHORAGE, Alaska—August 27, 2014 – Northwest Strategies (NWS), a full-service advertising, marketing and public relations firm, won 15 Telly Awards for work on behalf of Era Alaska, Ravn Alaska, Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation, the State of Alaska Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (SOA TPC) and the State of Alaska Obesity Prevention and Control Program (SOA OPCP). Six of the 15 awards were earned for fully animated spots, and all winning NWS spots for this year can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXCWAafYW1dHYe4ADiPEiiUFgEbaOaJpK.
Ravn Alaska, formerly Era Alaska, won bronze and silver awards for its 30-second brand launch TV spot, which used Rotoscope animation, and received a bronze award for the “Ravn Fly Away Rewards” piece. Led by NWS Interactive/Video Production Manager Shawn McCalip, each spot was produced in-house by a talented team of illustrators and animators.
“Rotoscope animation traces over live imagery – video we captured in advance and composited to fit the story line. The distinctive raven vocalization was also recorded in the field,” said NWS President Tiffany Tutiakoff. “We strive to deliver fresh, evocative messages and compelling creative to every client. These spots are unique in this market, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of Ravn Alaska, who consistently seeks to stretch and elevate their public communication.”
Ravn Alaska also garnered the Bronze People’s Telly for the “Pt. Thomson Safety Video.” The piece was a fresh interpretation of the typical airline safety video and incorporated a mishmash of classic eight-bit video game-like elements to increase engagement with a specialized audience. The People’s Telly is unique in that it is awarded based on popular online voting over a period of four weeks. The “Pt. Thomson Safety Video” also earned a bronze award for animation.
SOA OPCP won seven prizes in total for work that educates Alaskans on the health risks of childhood obesity and the importance of physical activity. The “Play Every Day, Aften Family” campaign received a bronze award, while the “Aften Family” video PSA won silver awards in the Not-for-Profit and Health and Wellness categories. “It’s What’s On the Inside,” a 30-second spot, won two bronze awards in Use of Animation and Public Service.
Established in 1979, the Tellys are known in the industry as the top awards honoring outstanding local, regional, cable TV commercials and programs, video and film productions, online commercials, video and films. About 11,000 entries were submitted from all 50 states and several countries.
