New Director for USCIS Anchorage Field Office Available for Interviews Prior to Open House

ANCHORAGE—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services invites the public to enjoy an open house event at their office at 620 Tenth Avenue, Suite 102 on Sept. 5. Staff will be conducting office tours, and will demonstrate the use of the Infopass system for those who’d like to use our kiosk to make themselves an appointment to meet with an officer. They’ll be available to answer questions.

You’ll get study guide materials for the citizenship test, and staff will stage a demonstration citizenship interview, for those interested in how people become citizens. It’s an exc lusive, behind-the-scene look at the office that processes applications for citizenship and residency, and helps people who’d like to adopt a child from another country. This one-hour open house starts at 3:00.

Media are invited to interview Anchorage’s new Field Office Director at a media availability between 2:00 and 3:00 on that day. Michael Hickman began his new duties in Alaska in August, after serving as Field Office Director in Beijing, China. Previously, he worked at the Nebraska Service Center, where he served on the Director’s staff. Before joining USCIS, he was an attorney in private practice in Phoenix.

USCIS invites media located in and around Anchorage to attend a one-hour workshop on immigration law, geared to clarify the kinds of issues frequently included in story pitches to editors, starting that day at 1:00. Even stories that aren’t primarily about immigration often contain an immigration element. Also, media might appreciate getting a baseline knowledge of existing laws, to more easily write about proposed changes to the law. Immigration law is the second largest federal code – we’ll make it seem easy.
