Cultural nonprofits join forces for a fashion-forward event

ANCHORAGE, AK (August 13, 2013) – In a paramount partnership, Alaska Native Heritage Month and Alaska Native Arts Foundation will host the premiere cultural event of the year. The Wear Art, Thou? Fashion Show and the Alaska Native Visionary Awards will showcase this November in a modern celebration of culture during Alaska Native Heritage Month.

The first-ever Wear Art, Thou? Fashion Show will feature both contemporary and traditional wearable art created by Alaska Native designers, such as, Christine Alowa (St. Lawrence Island Yupik), Joel Isaak (Athabascan) and Ricky Tagaban (Tlingit). Cutting edge clothing, jewelry, accessories and footwear will showcase traditional materials and technique.

The Alaska Native Visionary Awards recognize individuals perpetuating and preserving Alaska Native cultures in a unique way. Alaska Native Heritage Month is dedicated to sharing the spirit of Alaska Native and American Indian cultures, and celebrating traditions and contributions.

The Alaska Native Arts Foundation mission is to improve the economic well being of Alaska Native artists in their home communities, focused on building markets for Native art.
