Alaska Heart and Vascular Institute adds Yiming Wu, M.D., Ph.D., to Team of Skilled Physicians


Anchorage, Alaska – Yiming Wu, M.D., Ph.D., has joined Alaska Heart and Vascular Institute’s team of highly skilled cardiovascular experts.

Board certified in internal medicine, nuclear cardiology, adult echocardiography, and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Wu earned his M.D. in 1985 from Wenzhou Medical College in Wenzhou, China and his Ph.D. from Beijing University in 1990.  Dr. Wu then completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. His primary specialty is electrophysiology, and Dr. Wu is also practiced in various other areas of cardiovascular diseases.

“Dr. Wu was part of the team that performed the first cardiac ablation in all of China. He moved on to a distinguished career in basic science at Stanford and elsewhere in the United States. He then repeated a very demanding seven-year American postgraduate training pathway to resume his clinical career here. We are very excited to welcome Dr. Wu to the Alaska Heart Institute,” said Steven Compton, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.C., F.H.R.S.

A highly respected member of the medical community, Dr. Wu has received a number of notable honors. From University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics he was awarded: Making a Difference CEO Award in 2010; Fellow of the Year in Cardiology/General Internal Medicine in 2008-2009; Outstanding Junior Resident of the Year in General Internal Medicine in 2007-2008; and Above and Beyond Award for the General Internal Medicine Residency Program in 2007. Dr. Wu was also named winner of the Paul Neuhauser Award for most outstanding clinical presentation by a cardiology fellow in 2008-2009 by University of Iowa Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship.

Dr. Wu’s research has been published in a number of medical publications in both China and the United States. He has authored 55 peer-reviewed papers printed in such publications as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Circulation, Circulation Research as well as Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, among others.

Dr. Wu is a member and supporter of the American College of Physicians, American Heart Association and Heart Rhythm Society. He is fluent in both English and Chinese. When he is not devoting his time to patients and focusing on his medical research, Dr. Wu enjoys spending time with his family, playing table tennis, fishing and hiking.
