Weekly Coal Production Report: August 09, 2012
The Weekly Coal Production Report has been updated for the week ended
August 04, 2012 and month ended July 2012.
For the week ended August 04:
• U.S. coal production totaled approximately 20.0 million short tons (mmst)
• This production estimate is 0.5 percent lower than last week's estimate and
4.4 percent lower than the production estimate in the comparable week in 2011
• Coal production east of the Mississippi River totaled 8.1 mmst
• Coal production west of the Mississippi River totaled 11.9 mmst
• U.S. year-to-date coal production totaled 601.8 mmst, 5.5 percent lower than the
comparable year-to-date coal production in 2011
For the month ended July 2012:
• U.S. coal production totaled approximately 86.2 million short tons (mmst)
• This production estimate is 1.0 percent higher than the July 2011 estimate
• Coal production east of the Mississippi River totaled 35.2 mmst
• Coal production west of the Mississippi River totaled 51.0 mmst
