Step Out For a Good Cause at the 2012 Anchorage Heart Walk, September 15

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska, August 29, 2012) – People from across Alaska are showing that they can make a difference in saving the lives of others through the 2012 Anchorage Heart Walk. Pre-walk festivities will begin at 9 a.m., with the walk starting at 10 a.m. between 9th & 10th Avenues, N & P Streets. After the walk, there will also be activities for the whole family. Folks are encouraged to start a team, register, and start fundraising early. Suggested donation is $25 per walker.

The American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk is designed to celebrate physical activity and heart-healthy living at an event that is fun for the entire family. The event also raises much needed funds for the American Heart Association’s lifesaving mission – building healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. The 2012 Anchorage Heart Walk aims to raise more than $100,000, with the funds going towards heart disease and stroke research and education programs.

“Premera is proud to support the Anchorage Heart Association and is excited to be a sponsor of this year’s Heart Walk,” said Lynn Rust Henderson, director of sales at Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska and chair of the Heart Walk.  “Heart disease and stroke affect a growing number of people each year, and it is important to support the American Heart Association in its effort to prevent these life-threatening conditions. We encourage Premera members and the local community to participate in this year’s Heart Walk and to help the Association reach their 2012 fundraising goal.”

Last year’s Heart Walk raised more than $90,000 for the American Heart Association, and brought together more than 400 survivors, donors, and walkers in downtown Anchorage.
