USS Ted Stevens – A Permanent Honor for Uncle Ted
Alaskan Impact: Earlier this week, Senator Murkowski and the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee approved the 2013 defense appropriations bill, including language that puts a hold on any Air Force relocations for at least a year – including the Eielson F-16 proposal. Today the full Appropriations Committee approved that bill and added a recommendation: that the next U.S. Navy warship be named the USS Ted Stevens, to honor the longtime Senator’s legacy.

With the new taxes created by the Act, some question whether the Internal Revenue Service is prepared to become the nation’s “health care cop.”

Law of the Sea: Essential for Alaska
Alaskan Impact: In 2007, Russia placed a flag in the sea bed of the Arctic Ocean, laying claim to ocean and its resources. Being a signatory to the United Nations Law of the Sea Treaty, Russia and other Arctic nations are designing the road map for future exploration and development of Arctic waters. The US has yet to sign on. Today the President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced his support, to keep competitive with the rest of the world.
