HTGOC Is Hosting Their Annual Greek Festival!
Anchorage, Alaska-Aug. 17, 2012- Come and be Greek for a day! Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church (HTGOC) is hosting their 18th Annual Greek Festival this weekend; today, Sat. and Sun.
The Greek Festival will be taking place at HTGOC 2800 O’Malley Rd. from 11a.m.-10 p.m., Aug.17-18 and noon-8p.m. Aug.19. Free parking and free admission! There will be parking available at HTGOC, across the street at the Abbott-O-Rabbit baseball field and at St. John United Methodist Church on lower O’Malley Road, where there will be a free shuttle.
Come and enjoy the best of Greek culture in Alaska! Taste traditional foods from lamb to vegan and traditional Greek pastries. Enjoy and listen to traditional Greek folk music. Watch and learn how to do traditional Greek folk dancing, with performances at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Aug. 17-19. Stop by the Agora (market place) to buy books, pottery, jewelry and more that is all imported from Greece.
There is also a booth for the kids to play games and win prizes. Do not forget to stop by the Taverna (bar) to enjoy local micro brews and wine. There will also be a silent auction as well as a raffle for a 2013 Mercedes GLK Class SUV, 4Matic all-wheel drive. Come and bring the whole family rain or shine!
All of the proceeds from the Festival will be going to the building fund for the construction of the new church, which broke ground September 2009.
