GeoNorth Wins Alaska Dept of Transportation Award
Anchorage, Alaska - GeoNorth (www.geonorth.com), one of the nation's premier Information Technology solution providers headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, has just been awarded a GIS Routing and Bridge Data Merge project from the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Works. GeoNorth was awarded the contract through a publically competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) process via the State of Alaska's recently unveiled Task Order System.
In mid-2010, GeoNorth developed an application object (control) to determine routes between multiple points, and return information for bridges along particular routes. The data used for this control was a hybrid of a NavTeq navigable dataset for Alaska and the State of Alaska bridges. Merging of this data is a periodic task necessary to keep route and bridge data up to date. The Alaska DOT contracted with GeoNorth for the following tasks:
- Taking raw NavTeq data and creating Python scripts to perform required steps to make it a 'navigation dataset' suitable for use within ESRI's Network Analyst.
- Create a bridge linking program to automatically iterate over the DOT bridges and mileposts, snap those features onto the NavTeq network, and create a link that can be used by future NavTeq data updates.
- Manual data cleanup for likely poor data conditons that may exist without the clients knowledge.
“As with other DOT's across the country, GeoNorth has enjoyed a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship with the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities for many years now”, says Bob Johnson, GeoNorth’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “These long-term partnerships are what make us what we are today, and we continue to value them as top priorities. As Total Customer Satisfaction is our goal, it is these ongoing relationships that validate our efforts, ensuring our clients are serviced above and beyond their expectations”.
