District Names Thomas Hall Career and Technical Education Director
The district is pleased to announce Thomas Hall as the new Director of Career and Technical Education. The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program provides opportunities for students to explore potential careers while still in high school and make seamless transitions from school to post-‐secondary training and high demand occupations.
Hall is uniquely suited for the position of CTE director because he has experience as a private sector contractor, educator, and member of the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development (AKDOL). Hall began his career as a teacher and later transitioned to a business owner. As a successful business owner, Hall built homes throughout the Fairbanks region and gained first-‐hand experience in hiring and directing labor. He is also well versed in state and federal regulations as well as contemporary practices such as cold climate and green building. Additionally, Hall familiarized himself with local employment opportunities, job requirements, and other various training programs when he served as a Community Development Specialist for the AKDOL. Hall holds a bachelor’s degree in English Education from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
The CTE director position will manage funds allocated to the district through Alaska Senate Bill 84 as well as other grant funds dedicated to Career and Technical Education.
“I am impressed with the educational opportunities available for our students and excited to help further a state-‐of-‐the-‐art career and technical education program for the district,” said Hall. “As we look to the future, we strive to ensure our programs provide graduates with the skills they need to be successful after high school.”
The district welcomes Hall and looks forward to his contribution to the success of district students and the Alaska workforce. Upcoming CTE opportunities for district students include the Construction Academy course, Building Trades 1B which begins October 22, 2012 and the Construction Academy workshop, Introduction to Construction Trades which begins January 2, 2013. More Construction Academy information can be found at www.k12northstar.org/academy.
