Alaska Railroad to Honor Rep. Young

Alaska Railroad employees will be honoring Alaskan Congressman Don Young tomorrow for the work he did on the recent highway bill conference committee.

Among other things, Rep. Young was able to secure an agreement to provide an estimated $31 million annually in Federal Transit Authority (FTA) funding – which is roughly $24 million more than what the original Senate-passed bill included.  This was a huge win for the Alaska Railroad, the residents living along the track who depend on service, and for the state of Alaska as a whole.  Details below.

For those that would like a quote from Rep. Young on tomorrow's event, feel free to use this:

“I am pleased with the improvements to the bill we were able to make on the conference committee,” said Rep. Young. “Whether it’s moving goods – such as jet fuel and coal exports – or moving passengers, I know firsthand the importance of the Alaska Railroad to our state’s economy.  The Alaska Railroad will always have an ally in Washington as long as I’m there.”
