A Message from Alliance President Tom Hendrix

A Message from Alliance President Tom Hendrix

Primary Election day is Tuesday, August 28th and Alaskans across the state will do their civic duty and cast their ballot for House and Senate candidates. As important as those primary elections, is the vote on Ballot Measure 2.

As many of you know, the Alliance fully supported the renewal of a Coastal Zone Management plan. We lobbied for the bi-partisan legislation that passed the House unanimously. Unfortunately, the House and Senate were unable to reach agreement and no legislation made it to the Governor’s desk.

But make no mistake – Ballot Measure 2 is not the answer! The measure is anti-development, creates more layers of government and would not give adequate representation to Anchorage, the Mat-Su Valley or Fairbanks. While this program should be reinstituted, it should be done in Juneau with an opportunity for compromise, public comment and through the legislative process.

I encourage you to vote no on Ballot Measure 2 and elect Representatives and Senators who will go to Juneau and develop a program that will truly benefit Alaska.

The Alaska Support Industry Alliance, 646 West 4th Avenue Suite 200, Anchorage, AK 99501 United States
