SCORE and the Office Depot Foundation Release New Edition of Workbook to Help Nonprofit Organizations Achieve Success

Washington, DC – As part of their continuing efforts to help nonprofit organizations build capacity to serve their communities, SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” and the Office Depot Foundation® have released a new edition of Business Planning Tools for Nonprofit Organizations. This free workbook has been updated and expanded to include a new section: Volunteerism—A Valuable Strategic Asset. Nonprofit executives and board members can pick up a free copy of the guide by visiting a local SCORE office. Or, get advice from an expert with Ask SCORE online counseling. Find a SCORE office and connect with a mentor at www.score.org. The guide also can be downloaded from the Office Depot Foundation web site at www.officedepotfoundation.org. Business Planning Tools for Nonprofit Organizations – Second Edition offers expert guidance about how to successfully start and grow a nonprofit. Focus topics include strategic and business planning, financial policy and funding sources, organizational options, and basic tools and resources. The new section highlights how volunteerism can fit into an organization’s business model, how to start a conversation about volunteerism and how to plan for a volunteer program. Mark Dobosz, Executive Director for The SCORE Foundation, says, “New and growing nonprofits can benefit from expertise and resources that small businesses use to succeed. This guide from SCORE and the Office Depot Foundation can help nonprofits plan for success and implement an effective volunteer program.” Dobosz adds, “Thanks to the Office Depot Foundation, SCORE can expand our reach and provide valuable information and tools for nonprofits.” “Nonprofit organizations play a vital role in providing the safety net for people in need – and we are committed to helping these organizations operate as efficiently and effectively as possible,” says Mary Wong, president of the Office Depot Foundation. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with SCORE in the creation of this extremely helpful resource.” The guidebook includes a description of the Office Depot Foundation’s Caring Connection online volunteer resource program, which encourages and enables people throughout the United States to find volunteer opportunities in their communities.
