ORPC Announces New Anchorage Office and New Summer Intern
Ocean Renewable Power Company is
proud to announce our new ORPC Alaska
office location at 725 Christensen Drive in
Anchorage, and to introduce Tessa M.
Kara, our new Alaska summer intern.
While ORPC has had a presence in Alaska
for more than three years, this is our first
stand-alone office. "It's great to have an
office with a view of Cook Inlet as it is a
constant reminder of our ultimate goal
and inspires me when we are putting in
the long hours required to be successful
in this nascent tidal energy industry,"
said Monty Worthington, Alaska Director
of Project Development.
Tessa Kara is assisting Monty over the summer before
entering her final year in the engineering program at
University of Alaska Anchorage this fall. "Renewable
energy is only beginning to be taught at UAA, and
Alaska has been driven by fossil fuels for so long it is
difficult to learn about alternative forms of energy,"
said Tessa. "I saw ORPC's Doug Johnson make a
presentation and wanted to learn more. I wanted to
expose myself to different sectors of the power
generation field, and working for ORPC is a great
opportunity to learn about renewable energy."
Last summer, Tessa interned for Anchorage's
Municipal Light & Power.
Tessa is assisting Monty with research on water
velocity and current distribution modeling. She has
also been gathering data for grant proposals,
contacting vendors, and doing other work related to
ORPC's Cook Inlet and Nenana River projects.
