Governor Parnell Appoints Pamela Scott Washington to Anchorage Bench


August 9, 2010, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell announced his selection of Pamela Scott Washington for the Anchorage District Court.

Currently a domestic violence prosecutor for the Municipality of Anchorage, Washington also serves with the Anchorage Youth Court, CrisisPregnancyCenter, NAACP, North to the Future Business and Professional Women, and as adjunct faculty at University of Alaska Anchorage. She earned a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from NorthernArizonaUniversity and a juris doctorate from ArizonaStateUniversity.

“Ms. Washington’s service as a prosecutor in Anchorage and her deep commitment to personal responsibility and community service demonstrate that she will serve the public well as a district court judge,” Governor Parnell said.

Alaska’s District Courts have jurisdiction over state misdemeanors and violations of city and borough ordinances. They may also hold preliminary hearings in felony cases, try civil cases valued at less than $100,000 and small claims cases valued at less than $10,000, hear domestic violence cases, and issue summonses, arrest warrants and search warrants.
