DOT&PF Schedules Taylor Highway Closures--Extends Convoy Schedule
The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is closing the Taylor Highway, north of Chicken, for construction activities Aug., 21-23 and Aug., 27-28.
Convoys will continue through Aug., 31, but won't run during scheduled closures.
On scheduled convoy days, the convoys will travel round trip twice daily.
Convoys from Chicken to milepost 95 will depart from Chicken at 8 a.m., and 12 p.m.
Convoys from milepost 95 to Chicken will depart from milepost 95 at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m.
Convoys travel from Chicken, milepost 67, to the junction of the Top of the World Highway, milepost 95. Road conditions will accommodate all vehicles, including motor homes, buses and trailers. Vehicles must travel in convoys with pilot cars.
If travelers miss the departure time they will need to wait for the next convoy. Convoys are weather dependent. In case of heavy rain, travel will be cancelled.
The Taylor Highway is open to milepost 105 to allow hunting in the area. There is a large parking area near milepost 105. The road is closed beyond this point. It remains unknown when the Taylor Highway to Eagle will open; estimates range from two to three weeks.
