Commonwealth North Republican Debate PostponedCommonwealth North's Republican Debate will be postponed until Monday, August 23rd in respect of Senator Ted Stevens.
The members, Board of Directors, and staff of Commonwealth North extend their deepest sympathies to the Stevens family, and to all Alaskans, for the loss of a great leader, Senator Ted Stevens.
In 2000, Commonwealth North was honored to award Senator Stevens with the Walter J. Hickel Award for Distinguished Public Policy Leadership for his unwavering actions and commitments to protect and develop the future of Alaska. For his forty years of service in the United States Senate, the Senator embodied the values that Commonwealth North strives to meet: to recognize the State's unique obligation to manage the common wealth of Alaska; to commit to the future of Alaska; to put Alaska's interests before special interests; to exercise intellectual integrity and rigor; and to respect all peoples and cultures. Few Alaskan's have achieved the high degree of statesmanship that Senator Stevens embodied.
In respect to the memory of Senator Stevens, Commonwealth North has re-scheduled tomorrow's Republican Gubernatorial Debate for Monday, August 23 from Noon to 2:00 pm at the Hotel Captain Cook. Governor Parnell, Ralph Samuels, and Bill Walker have all kindly accommodated us with this change. Thank you to the candidates and their staff for helping us work through rescheduling. Please contact Josh Wilson at the Commonwealth North office at (907)258-9522, if you have already registered for tomorrow's debate and are unable to accommodate the new date.

Commonwealth North's 2010 Republican Debate will be postponed until Monday, August 23rd. The major candidates are confirmed. The policy concerns the candidates will need to address are critical to the long range stability of Alaska. This program will deliver an engaging and detailed candidate forum for members and guests to analyze the candidate's leadership qualifications on pivotal public policy concerns for Alaska's future Governor.
All leading candidates will be prepared to offer responses to targeted questions on topics the members of Commonwealth North have identified as priorities including long-range fiscal planning, energy stability, and dramatic increases in the cost of health care for customers, the health care industry, and within Alaska's budget.
On October 28th we will invite the winners of the primary election back for a final general election program. Our moderators will be Karen Hunt, Jeff Lowenfels, and Frank Murkowski for the series.
