Bristol Design Build Services Recognized by OSHA’s Premiere Safety and Health Program

Bristol Design Build Services, LLC was accepted into the Occupational Health and Safety Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) on June 23, 2010 in recognition of the company's stringent dedication to safety at all levels of operations. The VPP acceptance is a result of Bristol's role as Prime Contractor in the development of a Tactical Equipment Maintenance Facility (TEMF) for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Ft. Lewis, WA.

The VPP "recognizes and partners with businesses and worksites that show excellence in occupational safety and health." Participants in the elite program rate at least 50 percent below the industry average for lost workday incidents. Acceptance into VPP is based on a determination that the best management practices recognized as effective by OSHA are being practiced on a day-to-day basis. These include high levels of management, leadership and employee involvement; worksite analysis; hazard prevention and control; and safety and health training.

Bristol's Health and Safety Manager Clark Roberts said, "The acceptance of Bristol Design Build into this program is a great accomplishment for everyone on the TEMF job." Regional Safety Manager Arnie Doppler has also been very involved in both the VPP application process as well as day-to-day implementation of safety and wellness practices on the job site. "Top management support is the key to an effective safety program," he said. "Combined with employee involvement, it is the cornerstone to creating a culture of safety."

"This is both a great safety achievement for the Bristol project team and an affirmation that the principles guiding the Bristol safety program have us on the right track for future success," Roberts added.

Bristol Design Build is a member of the Bristol Alliance of Companies, a group of Alaska Native-owned engineering, construction and environmental services companies with offices in Alaska, Washington, Texas and North Carolina.
