Begich Statement on Conclusion of TransCanada’s Open Season

U.S. Sen. Mark Begich issued the following statement in reaction to the good news that TransCanada has received bids during the company's 90-day open season for construction of an Alaska natural gas pipeline project.

"That TransCanada has received serious indications of participation in its Alaska Pipeline Project is good news for Alaska and the nation. This is another sign of positive progress toward Alaska's long-held goal of a pipeline to supply Alaskans and America with abundant, clean-burning Alaska natural gas.

"The Denali Project is also awaiting bidders through its open season process, which closes in early October. Meanwhile, I'll continue working in the Congress to build support for this vital Alaska natural gas pipeline project. The federal government has an important role in the form of providing a financial backstop for this enormous project and streamlining the permitting so it can move forward quickly."
