Our 51st Annual Fall Conference and Business Trade Show are scheduled for September 20-22, 2010 in Juneau at Centennial Hall and the Juneau Arts Center.  The Annual Fall Conference and Business Trade Show will feature timely topics important to the future of Alaska business.

State Chamber Rural Outreach trip to Sitka September 23rd
This year the State Chamber will be traveling to Sitka, Alaska for its rural outreach trip on September 23.  Some very special places on earth seem to be forged for the curious and adventurous souls who demand diversity and grandeur in their travels.  Those who venture for out-of-the-ordinary, majestic and lush places, Sitka proudly beckons.  For the seekers of treasures, natural, cultural and historical, Sitka is that treasure island.

With views of island-studded waters and stately spruce forests reaching to the water's edge, Sitka is considered Alaska's most beautiful seaside town.  Yet Sitka's hallmark is its tenure and devotion to a culturally diverse past.  In a young state whose history is filled with tales of boomtowns and ghost towns, Sitka has the distinctive character of a place that has been settled for thousands of years.  These ancient lands, home to the Tlingit Indians, celebrated their life and culture long before Russians or Americans walked on the rocky shores and today Tlingit living culture is deeply rooted in this small seaside city.

PangoMedia, Inc. Announces New Chief Executive Officer
The board of PangoMedia, Inc., provider of innovative software engineering, IT staffing and web development solutions for Alaskan business and government, has announced an internal promotion to its executive team.

Craig Fisher, now Chief Executive Officer, joined PangoMedia in 2004 bringing with him a national resume in high-level technical consulting, training and web development.  In his previous role as Chief Operating Officer, Craig brought this experience to bear transforming PangoMedia from a small web design & hosting shop into the large scale, process-oriented, engineering and consulting company it has become.

In his career to-date, Craig has proven himself in all aspects of Information Technology, programming, analysis and architecture, with expertise in strategic IT planning, web development, SQL and database development.  Craig's consulting credits include developing high-volume, high-visibility applications for Fortune 100 companies, the State of Alaska, and Alaskan oil companies.  Craig spent four years traveling the US during his tenure with Allaire (Macromedia/Adobe) coaching thousands of developers from companies including Boeing, Cummins and Sprint before finally settling in Alaska.

An avid sailor, skier, and rock climber, a father and husband, Craig has lived in Anchorage for nine years.  He is active in numerous local organizations such as the Alaska Support Industry Alliance and the Alaska Sailing Club.

Craig takes on the role of CEO from Andy Rogers who resigned from PangoMedia last month.

Alaska State Chamber Welcome New Staff
Shelly Tammen has joined the staff at the Alaska State Chamber as the Administrative Accountant.  As Administrative Accountant, Shelly has full responsibility for all accounting, database and operational issues for the State Chamber. Shelly joins staff in the Juneau offices having moved to Juneau from Anchorage in July of this year. 

Shelly has Bachelor of Arts degrees in Accounting and Business Administration and Management from Alaska Pacific University.  She also received certification as an Economic Development Finance Professional from the National Development Council.  Prior to coming to the State Chamber Shelly worked in commercial lending for six years, was a logger for two years, and was a paralegal for over 20 years.  She has two sons and two grandchildren in Colorado.  Shelly loves to fish and hunt, and enjoys beading, skin sewing and traveling.


CORRECTED: Job Openings at Consulate of Canada
The Consulate of Canada is seeking to fill two positions in the coming weeks.  They will be seeking a Political and Economic Relations officer and an Arctic Advocacy Officer.  The Consulate of Canada has prepared announcements and detailed job descriptions for both positions and the detailed descriptions are posted on our website at the Jobs Page
