Senator Bettye Davis Named to Important Multi-State Education Committee

(ANCHORAGE, August 19, 2009) – State Senator Bettye Davis (D-Anchorage) has been appointed to the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education’s (WICHE) Legislative Advisory Committee.

“I am proud to have been selected to serve on this important committee,” said Senator Davis.  “This group will help keep Alaska’s leaders up to speed on the latest opportunities available to improve our higher education system.”

WICHE is a regional organization created to facilitate resource sharing among the higher education systems of the West.  It implements a number of activities to accomplish its objectives and governed by three gubernatorial appointees from each state.

WICHE Commissioners created the Legislative Advisory Committee (LAC) in 1995 to inform the WICHE Commission’s Executive Committee and staff about significant legislative issues related to higher education.

“Alaska’s post-secondary education system needs attention and advice from the best in the business,” said Senator Davis.  “As a member of the LAC, I will be able to share with Alaskans the expertise of academics, legislators and other experts from around the world.”
