"I was saddened when I heard the news of former Senator Tim Kelly’s passing. This is a great loss not only to his family and friends, but Alaskans as a whole,” Senator Lesil McGuire said today.
“Tim Kelly was a dedicated servant to his state and even after making the decision to not run for office, he was a person many of us could turn to for his frank and accurate insight, guidance and advice,” McGuire added. “He touched people’s lives with his work and will be missed by many.”
“After his service in the legislature, the senator continued his passion for public policy. He served Alaskans with integrity, representing lobbying clients including the Alaska State Medical Association.,” McGuire said.
Kelly served one term in the state House and five terms in the state Senate. He died Monday (Aug. 17) two days following his 65th birthday. The office of Governor Sean Parnell has directed that on Saturday (Aug. 22) state flags be flown at half-staff.
