Governor Parnell Mourns the Loss of Fort Richardson Soldier


August 28, 2009, Kodiak, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell offered his condolences to the families and friends of a FortRichardson soldier who was killed August 26 in Paktika Province, Afghanistan.

“Staff Sergeant Kurt Curtiss is a true American hero,” Governor Parnell said. “His dedication to duty and his tremendous courage will never be forgotten. Sandy and I send our thoughts and prayers to his family and fellow soldiers as they mourn this painful loss.”

Curtiss, 27, of Utah, died from injuries sustained from small arms fire. He was assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska.


A state flag, along with a letter of condolence, will be sent to his family.
