Draft Chugach State Park Trail Management Plan Available for Public Review and Comment

(Anchorage, AK ) - The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation, has released the Public Review Draft of the Chugach State Park Trail Management Plan.  This plan sets forth trail management guidelines and makes recommendations for the development of trails within the park.  The previous trail plan, adopted in 1986, was outdated and needed revision to recognize trails that have been built or improved in the last 23 years, to accommodate new trail development, and to implement the Division’s new trail policy.

The public is invited to review and comment on the Draft Chugach State Park Trail Management Plan.  To learn more about the planning process for parks and trails, and to access the online Public Review Draft, visit the State Parks Planning website at: http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/units/chugach/planning.htm

Printed reference versions of the plan will be made available for review at the Public Information Center in Anchorage and the Chugach State Park Headquarters Office in the Potter Section House during their normal hours of operation.  A CD containing a copy of the plan can be requested through the contact information provided below and a limited number of hard copies of the plan will be printed and available by request.  Written comments can be mailed, emailed or faxed to the addresses below.  To receive full consideration, comments must be received no later than 5:00pm AST, Friday, October 16, 2009.

A series of meetings have been scheduled in Eagle River, Anchorage and Girdwood and the public is encouraged to attend to share their thoughts.  At each meeting, there will be a short presentation and an opportunity to get more information, provide input and ask questions.  Check the schedule below for the meeting site nearest you.
