Youth Job Fair April 10 at Anchorage Muldoon Job Center

The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Youth Job and Volunteer Opportunity Fair will be Thursday, April 10 from noon-4 p.m. at the Anchorage Muldoon Job Center. The event is free to exhibitors and job seekers.

This event provides an opportunity for young Alaskans to connect with employers and allows employers an opportunity to tap into the talents of this group of potential employees.

With more than 50 booths, the fair will focus on current and summer jobs, apprenticeship, volunteer and internship opportunities, and educational programs in all industries for youth and young adults from 14-24.

About 15 percent of Alaska’s workforce is 14 to 21 years old and most of them work in the private sector, often in seasonal jobs.

Wage and Hour staff will be at the fair to approve youth work permits. All minors 16 and under must have a work permit on file with the Alaska Department of Labor. The form is online at Labor.Alaska.Gov/lss/forms/workpmit.pdf.

For a summary of Alaska’s child labor laws go online at Labor.Alaska.Gov/lss/childlaw.htm and Labor.Alaska.Gov/lss/forms/pam200.pdf. Youth Job Fair sponsors include Governor’s Council on Disabilities and Special Education and Nine Star Education and Employment Services.
