Joint Legislative Veterans Caucus Honors Vietnam Veterans with “Welcome Home” Ceremony
JUNEAU-Today (2/28/14), the Joint Legislative Veterans Caucus held a ceremony marking ‘Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day’. Five members of the pre-school class from the Discovery Preschool kicked off the ceremony by presenting a ‘Welcome Home’ sign they made for the Vietnam Veterans. Senate President Charlie Huggins then gave a speech explaining the importance of the theme ‘Welcome Home”.
“Many of these brave warriors received a less than warm welcome home when they returned from their tours in Vietnam,” said Senator Huggins, who is Co-Chair of the Joint Legislative Veterans Caucus. “We felt it was time to show them how much their service means to Americans.”
Representative Steve Thompson, also Co-Chair of the Joint Legislative Veterans Caucus, followed up with another speech honoring Vietnam Veterans and their sacrifices.
As part of the ceremony, the Caucus presented certificated to Vietnam Veterans in attendance to recognize their service.
March 29 annually is set aside by state law as ‘Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day’ in Alaska.
