Lemonade Day Alaska kickoff, check presentation April 20
The University of Alaska will kick off the third annual Lemonade Day Alaska on April 20 during Kids’ Day with a $25,000 check presentation from lead sponsor Wells Fargo.
Lemonade Day, started in 2007 by a Texas businessman, teaches kids how to set goals, create a business plan, budget and save money, provide customer service, and invest in their community. Kids receive an entrepreneur workbook that helps them run their own business, such as a lemonade stand, from start to finish. Youth keep everything they earn and are encouraged to save a little, spend a little, and give a little to their favorite charity.
More than 3,500 Alaskan youth are expected to participate in the free community event on May 11. Last year, more than 2,500 kids donated $68,000 in proceeds to local charities, and 52 percent of children opened their first savings account.
Free financial education workshops are being held in communities across Alaska. Wells Fargo team members teach saving and budgeting lessons using the company’s Hands on Banking program.
