Legislature Approves Posting Insurance Policies Online
Labor & Commerce bill modernizes insurance in Alaska, protects consumers
Thursday, April 11, 2013, Juneau, Alaska – A bill modernizing the insurance business in Alaska by allowing companies to post policy terms online is heading to the Governor, passing the Alaska Senate today.
House Bill 175, sponsored by the House Labor & Commerce Committee, would keep protections on customer information in place, and only allow insurers the ability to provide documents to their customers without identifying information.
“The bill brings Alaska’s insurance laws into the 21st century, offering instant online access to consumers while keeping their private information private,” Committee Chair Kurt Olson, R-Soldotna/Kenai, said. “HB 190 offers savings in time and money to both sides.”
HB 175, which passed the House April 3, heads to the Governor for signature.
