Join in the Fun with Alaska Boys & Girls Clubs April 8-12, 2013

Anchorage, Alaska, April 8, 2013 - Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska joins some 4,000 Boys & Girls Clubs across America and on U.S.
military installations overseas in the annual celebration of National Boys & Girls Club Week, April 8 -12. For more than 75 years, Boys
& Girls Clubs have celebrated this week in a variety of ways which support why great futures start at a Boys & Girls Club. This year,
Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska is inviting the public to “Open the door. Take the tour” and discover the magic happening behind its doors.
Participants will experience first- hand how Clubs are making a difference in the lives of our young people.
“Boys & Girls Clubs are increasingly playing a vital role in many young people’s lives,” said Alana Humphrey, CEO of Boys & Girls
Clubs – Alaska. “We offer a place that provides caring guidance as well as engaging programs that help kids do well in school, give
back to their communities, and choose healthy lifestyles.
Some of the planned activities during National Boys & Girls Club Week at local Clubs include:
Woodland Park (2300 West 36th Avenue, Anchorage)
Monday April 8: Blue Brick Road - Club Members get a blue paper brick to write down what the Club means to them. After they are
done, the brick will be put on the wall for everyone to see
Tuesday April 9: Blue Day - Wear as much blue as you can! Members will vote on the craziest blue member.
Wednesday April 10: Favorite part of the Club - Members will have the opportunity to draw a picture of their favorite part of the Club.
Thursday April 11: “How well do you know your Clubhouse?” Scavenger Hunt
Friday April 12: As always, what our kids love the most, our blue Jell-O eating contest.
Mountain View Community Center (315 N. Price Street, Anchorage)
Staff Member “Mr. C” is facilitating a contest for all Club Members to write an essay about their “Club Life” and they will present their
essays to everyone at the Clubhouse on Friday, April 12.
Northeast Community Center (1251 Muldoon Road, Anchorage)
Club Members will make a music video to go with the song Mr. Fred (former BGC Member, now on Staff) made about the Club! The
premier of the video will happen Friday at a Club-wide party.
BGC Fun In Eagle River
April 8: Open the Door to A Fun Filled BGC Week by celebrating with Blue Slushies. Get a Little Crazy by wearing your favorite Crazy Hat
April 9: Don't Get Mixed Up: Mismatched clothes day & BGC Bingo
April 10: Blue Jell-O Eating Contest. Open the Door To Art by creating your own Freedom with Butterfly Art.
April 11: Crazy Hair Day & Face Painting
April 12: Dance Like You Mean It! The Great Dance Off! Prizes will be given.
Goose Bay (At Knik/Goose Bay Elementary School, Wasilla)
April 8: Pick up garbage and plant flowers
April 9: One-minute fitness challenge/contest
April 10: Wear blue contest - extra points for BGC gear
April 11: Obstacle course and relay race
April 12: Family fun night / hot dog dinner
