Isaacson Surprised, Speechless to Receive Local Honor
North Pole Rep wins Fairbanks Chamber’s Jim Messer Award
Saturday, March 30, 2013, Fairbanks, Alaska – Representative Doug Isaacson, R-North Pole, is pleased to announce that last night he was honored by the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Jim Messer Award for service to the military community, the signature award presented at the annual Military Appreciation Banquet.
“Fairbanks, North Pole, and all of Interior Alaska are better places because of the men and women in the service that protect and defend us,” Isaacson said. “They do so for so little or modest pay, and go through some of the most rigorous training in a place that for many of them is far from their homes. I am immensely proud right now and am so thankful to the Fairbanks Chamber and those who chose to grant me this prestigious award.
“In Alaska, we have one of the highest per capita veterans and active duty population in the nation,” Isaacson said. “It’s because of what we do here; we make them feel at home, just like for many of us who were made to feel at home. It’s something I like to do, make their lives easier – so I was speechless and so surprised to receive the Messer Award. The military plays such a critical and huge role in our economy as well as the security interests of our nation.”
Jim Messer award winners in the past have included former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens, Senator Lisa Murkowski, Representative (then-Mayor) Steve Thompson, and former state senator Gary Wilken.
