Exercise Northern Edge 13 Cancelled

Published:

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - The 2013 iteration of Exercise NORTHERN EDGE originally scheduled to take place in Alaska from June 17-28, 2013 has been cancelled.

Given current fiscal constraints and other competing operational priorities, this U.S.-only exercise represented one area where Pacific Command could reassign its people and resources to maintain required readiness in the region.   This decision does not signal an end to the NORTHERN EDGE series of exercises and future military training opportunities in the state of Alaska.

Alaska remains an extremely important part of our overall strategy to support U.S. national interests in the Asia-Pacific region.

NORTHERN EDGE is one in a series of U.S. Pacific Command exercises that prepares joint forces to respond to crises in the Asia Pacific region. Approximately 9,000 U.S. active duty and reserve component soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines were scheduled to participate with more than 200 aircraft from all services.
