Anchorage Hillside Rotary Announces 24th Annual Moose Marble Madness
ANCHORAGE –Anchorage Hillside Rotary announces their 24th Annual Moose Marble Madness this Friday, April 19, 2013, the drop is promptly at noon. Twenty-four years ago, Anchorage Hillside Rotarians were looking for a unique way to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association, which one of our charter members has lived with since childhood. They teamed up with the American Diabetes Association and scouted the woods for 2000 dried moose turds that would be individually numbered and dropped from the sky.
2000 individually numbered moose “nuggets” will be dropped by helicopter on to a large painted bull’s-eye in the parking lot of O’Malley’s on the Green, on April 19 at noon. The lucky winner of the numbered nugget closest to the bull’s-eye wins $5,000 and in addition to the grand prize, over 50 other cash prizes are given. All proceeds benefit the American Diabetes Association and other non-profit local charitable organizations. The helicopter provided by Evergreen Helicopters will do a couple of passes over O’Malley’s and when positioned, a Hillside Rotarian will release the “Poop” from a specially designed “drop bucket.”
This year’s drop is dedicated to the memory of Connie Weel, who recently lost her battle with cancer. Connie was a long time employee of the American Diabetes Association and a supporter of Rotary.
Special thanks to O’Malley’s on the Green for the use of their location, and Evergreen Helicopters.
