Alaska Business Monthly Magazine Wins Prestigious Alaska Press Club Awards

Alaska Business Monthly magazine won big in the Alaska Press Club’s Best Magazine Feature category, garnering first and second place in the organization’s 2013 annual contest for work completed in 2012. The awards were announced Saturday night at the Alaska Press Club Annual Awards held at the Alaska Experience Theatre in downtown Anchorage and culminated the organization’s 2013 conference themed "Every Day."

Alaska Business Monthly's President and General Manager Jim Martin echoed his sentiments of last year when the magazine swept the Best Magazine Feature category: “Once again, we thank the Alaska Press Club for recognizing the talent and teamwork helping to make Alaska Business Monthly the best business magazine in Alaska and the West Coast.”

Managing Editor Susan Harrington was awarded first place in the category of Best Magazine Feature for the article “Icebreakers Importance in the Arctic: The Healy, the Renda and Vitus Marine,” which appeared in the March 2012 issue. Freelance writer Paula Dobbyn was awarded second place in the category of Best Magazine Feature for the article “Alaska’s Fishing Industry: The universal relevance of a multi-billion dollar industry,” which appeared in the May 2012 print edition.

“The entire team at Alaska Business Publishing Co. is excited to be a part of this award-winning publication,” says Managing Editor Susan Harrington. “We are especially grateful to our freelancers for their contributions to Alaska Business Monthly and the ongoing support of the business community. We look forward to continuing to provide a really great magazine for our expanding readership and remain committed to featuring stories on the individuals, organizations and companies that shape the Alaska economy.”

Alaska journalists were abundant at the annual awards, which featured a reception sponsored by Thompson & Co. Public Relations and dinner sponsored by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute and DenaliMedia.
