STEM Winners from ROV Riot in Anchorage Announced


Juneau, AK (April 26, 2012) – The 2012 Anchorage School District Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) Riot, held on Saturday, April 21 at the Bartlett High School pool, announced the winners of its competition.   

Participants in this year’s event included Polaris Northstar K-12, Clark Middle School and Twindly Bridge Charter School. Emerging from the competition were the following winners:

·         Mission I – POLARIS 4 - Eli Hickok & Cody Wong 

·         Mission II – Clark Purple Penguins- Andrea Beltran and Summer Kuhns

·         Mission III - POLARIS 4 - Eli Hickok & Cody Wong 

·         Overall Winner – POLARIS 4 - Eli Hickok & Cody Wong- 1st Place Engraved Trophy 

All participants received a participation certificate, a ROV Riot t-shirt and a medal. Each participating school received 20 SEAPERCH build kits for next year, donated by STEM AK. Each mission winner received a $30 gift certificate to SparkFun, and the overall winners received a wolf encounter for themselves and four friends at the Anchorage Zoo, donated by ExxonMobil Corporation.

The ROV Riot competition was a collaborative effort of the Anchorage School District and STEM AK, a Program of the Juneau Economic Development Council, with generous support from ExxonMobil Corporation.

The ASD ROV Riot was more than just a competition; it was an opportunity for Middle and High School students to collaborate and share design tips, strategies, and cooperative problem solving and team work.
