April is Autism Awareness Month
*Date change for Autism Awareness Workshop
In Alaska, 1 out of 88 babies will develop an autism spectrum disorder this year.
April is Autism Awareness Month. All month long Stone Soup Group (SSG) and its partners will be highlighting the growing need for concern and support for autism.
Right now, the Alaska State Legislature is trying to get a bill passed that would require insurance coverage for autism spectrum disorders. The Senate already passed SB 74 but it hit a snag. With less than 2 weeks left in the session, this critical piece of legislation for our families is on the chopping block and could cut them off from much needed services for their children. Tens of thousands of Alaskan families will be impacted.
*On April 12th, join SSG and its military partners for an Autism Awareness Workshop. We will be teaching the early signs, symptoms and available resources about autism.

On April 27th, join SSG for Autism Rocks!! A family benefit concert featuring local bands who will ‘rock’ Anchorage all in the name of autism.

Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause of autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.
