Sen. Murkowski Names McCormick Special Counsel

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today named Patrick J. McCormick III Republican Special Counsel on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.  McCormick comes to the committee from Hunton & Williams LLP where he was a partner and the leader of the Regulated Markets and Energy Infrastructure Practice in the firm's Washington Office.  McCormick will provide counsel to and advocacy on all matters within the Committee's jurisdiction especially as they bear on the security, adequacy, reliability and affordability of the nation's energy supply resources and delivery infrastructure.  McCormick's private practice focused on representing clients and advising executives on matters pertaining to energy regulation and infrastructure development.

"Enabling our nation's energy supply to be affordable, abundant, clean, diverse and domestic is a major priority," Sen. Murkowski said. "Pat's background and experience will add to our strong and dedicated staff as we exercise our legislative and oversight responsibilities for national energy policy and other areas of the Committee's jurisdiction."

McCormick observed, "Sen. Murkowski is a national leader on the issues of primary concern to me over the course of my legal career.  It is an honor and a privilege to join her distinguished committee staff and to have the opportunity to work under her leadership for balanced policies to ensure adequate, reliable and affordable energy supply and delivery while respecting environmental and conservation imperatives."

Prior to joining Hunton and Williams in 2005, McCormick was for more than a decade the Managing Partner for the Washington Office of Balch & Bingham LLP.  Earlier in his career he served as Deputy Assistant General Counsel for Electric Rates and Corporate Regulation with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and in positions of increasing responsibility in the law and governmental affairs departments of Potomac Electric Power Company. McCormick is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland.  He has been listed in Chambers USA and Best Lawyers in America.
