Governor’s Child Protection Bill Passes Legislature

April 16, 2011, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today welcomed passage of his legislation strengthening laws related to the sexual exploitation of children and stalking. The vote in both bodies was unanimous. House Bill 127 is part of Governor Parnell’s Safe Homes, Strong Families initiative, which includes ending the epidemic of domestic violence and sexual assault in Alaska within a generation.

“This law will help us better protect our children from predators,” Governor Parnell said. “I thank the Legislature for all of the hard work that went into this bill. Keeping Alaska’s children safe will remain my top priority.”

HB 127 includes provisions that expand Alaska’s stalking statutes and increases the penalties for online enticement of a child. HB 127 also prohibits electronic distribution of explicit images of children.
