Governor Issues Statement on ConocoPhillips AnnouncementApril 7, 2011, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sean Parnell issued a statement today following a speech given by ConocoPhillips Chairman and CEO Jim Mulva at a Resource Development Council event in Anchorage:
"Today the CEO of ConocoPhillips announced that the company would 'commit billions of dollars in Alaska with (an) improved business climate.' I appreciate Jim Mulva coming to Alaska personally to publicly state his company's strong commitment to new investment if we pass legislation to reduce oil taxes.
"I hope that Alaska senators listened to what he had to say. Lower oil taxes will make Alaska more competitive and invite billions in new investment, creating thousands of new jobs. Our economic future is at stake and with 10 days left, I urge the Senate to take this announcement to heart and act."
