Christy Lawton named director of Children's ServicesLong-time social worker has 'hit the ground running'
ANCHORAGE - After serving as acting director of the Office of Children's Services since August 2010, Christy Lawton has been named director of the agency by Health and Social Services Commissioner William J. Streur. She will continue to be based in Fairbanks, and will be working frequently from the Anchorage and Juneau offices as well
"Christy's already hit the ground running, and I know she'll continue her excellent work in this complex and crucial division," Commissioner Streur said. "I look forward to her being a permanent member of our Leadership Team."
Lawton has an extensive background in Children's Services. She first joined OCS in 1998 as a social worker. In the years since, she has been a supervisor, staff manager, Children's Services manager and child welfare administrator with the division. She holds a master of social work degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage and a bachelor's degree in social work from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
