State of Alaska Speeds Application Deployment by 30% with MuleSoft Tcat Server
Leverages Tcat Server’s Configuration Management and Programmatic Deployment Capabilities
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MuleSoft, the Web Middleware Company, today announced that the State of Alaska’s commercial fisheries department has implemented MuleSoft Tcat server, the enterprise-class web application server based on Apache Tomcat.
The State of Alaska employs Apache Tomcat as infrastructure for applications that are used by thousands of employees to provide critical information to the general public and to the rest of the state government. The department was being crippled by the laborious and error-prone manual configuration of Tomcat, as well as memory constraints that restricted some applications from being deployed and often threatened the stability of its server. With its rich configuration management capabilities, Tcat Server now provides much-needed visibility into Tomcat's server properties and automates the configuration of multiple enterprise Tomcat instances, reducing configuration errors and application downtime.
“MuleSoft Tcat Server installed seamlessly onto our existing Tomcat infrastructure and allows us to continue building applications on Tomcat while helping us address all of the configuration and application deployment issues we were facing,” said Ivan T. Show, Ph.D and Computer Service Supervisor for Commercial Fisheries, State of Alaska. “Because we develop a lot of our own applications, including mobile applications that have frequent release cycles, we value Tcat Server’s version control capabilities. We’ve been very pleased with our implementation of Tcat Server and have been able to significantly cut development costs, which is a huge plus.”
Alaska supports one of the most fruitful commercial fishing economies in the world, with the economic impact of the overall seafood industry valued at over $4 billion. The Division of Commercial Fisheries manages fisheries that feed all of Alaska and many other parts of the world. During the fishing season, the department tracks and manages the fisheries on a daily basis, creating a critical need for the output and access of real-time data collected by field employees, such as biological surveys and cache statistics. In addition to server-side applications in the datacenter, the department also develops its own mobile applications for field employees. Prior to implementing Tcat Server, the department would frequently run into issues with integrating newly developed applications with its existing systems, often resulting in server downtime. Tcat Server’s deployment features gives the team insight into application version history, facilitating the deployment of applications from development and test into production. By automating these otherwise manual tasks, Tcat Server has helped the department streamline the development and deployment process by 30%.
“The Commercial Fisheries Department of the State of Alaska is a perfect example of how quickly Tcat Server can provide a return on investment,” said Sateesh Narahari, director of product management at MuleSoft. “Because Tcat Server is built on the 100% Apache Tomcat binaries, customers can quickly get up and running without significant changes to their existing runtime infrastructure. In addition, Tcat Server is immediately compatible with new releases of Apache Tomcat, and will be compatible with the upcoming release of Tomcat 7, allowing customers to take advantage of critical improvements as they become available.”
