Nome Mayor Denise Michels Declares Candidacy for LG
Nome Mayor Denise Michels has filed her letter of intent with APOC to seek the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor of Alaska.
“It is time to develop Alaska’s resources, energy, and infrastructure, and provide the workforce opportunities and education for Alaskans that will come with it,” said Michels, an Alaska Native born and raised in rural Alaska.
“As a former President of both the Alaska Municipal League and the Alaska Conference of Mayors, I have witnessed firsthand the economic struggles facing this state, and I will work hard to develop Alaska’s potential.”
Michels has served as the Mayor of Nome since being elected in 2003. She is former small business owner and has served as a past President of the Alaska Municipal League as well as the Alaska Conference of Mayors. She also served as Chair of Governor Palin’s transition team for the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs.
