Governor Welcomes News of Increased Ship DeploymentsApril 23, 2010, Anchorage, Alaska - Governor Sean Parnell said today he's pleased to learn that cruise line Oceania Cruises has decided to deploy the Regatta to Alaska in 2011.
Oceania Cruises has three ships that each can carry 684 passengers and 400 crewmembers.
"I am pleased to welcome Oceania Cruises to Alaska for the 2011 season," Governor Parnell said. "We are working hard to make Alaska a more attractive place to operate. I hope this is the beginning of a long partnership among Oceania Cruises, our state, and the many Alaska businesses that will serve the Regatta and her passengers and crew."
The Regatta will complete 10 Alaska voyages in 2011. The majority of the itineraries will be 12-day, Vancouver-to-Anchorage voyages.
Recognizing the significant impact the decline in cruise ship travel will have on Alaska jobs and businesses, Governor Parnell successfully led an effort during the legislative session to reduce the cruise passenger excise tax. The governor also supported increased funding to the Alaska Travel Industry Association for tourism marketing.
