Governor Parnell Orders Flags Lowered for Fallen Soldier

April 1, 2010, Anchorage, Alaska — Governor Sean Parnell today ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Friday in honor and memory of U.S. Army Private First Class James Miller, a 2007 graduate of ChugiakHigh School.

Private First Class Miller died Monday from injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Dashat, Afghanistan.

“Private Miller’s dedicated service and defense of our country will not be forgotten,” Governor Parnell said. “Sandy and I send our sincerest condolences to the family during this painful time.”

Private First Class Miller was assigned to C Company, 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

State flags will be lowered to half-staff on Friday, April 2. Flags will be raised to full-staff the following morning.
