'Fabulaskana" Show Opened April 19 in Fairbanks
A trio of 9-foot-tall snowshoe hares and 14 moveable musk oxen are among the highlights of the new show, “Fabulaskana,” which opened April 19 in the art gallery on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.
The show is the culmination of thesis work by University of Alaska Fairbanks Master of Fine Arts student Lacie Stiewing. She says the inspiration for her thesis project comes from the experience of moving from the commercially overloaded environment of Reno to the more natural environment of Interior Alaska. Her work also draws on the difference between the heat and sun of the desert and the cold and snow of the Arctic.
Fabulaskana runs through April 30 in the UAF gallery. Stiewing will be discussing her work during a thesis presentation on April 22 at 1 p.m. in the UAF Discovery Lab. She will also host an opening reception Thursday, April 22 from 5-7 p.m.
Stiewing’s work has recently been included in Out North exhibitions in Anchorage.
